About Us

The Staten Island Geological Society was founded in 1972. The Society provides a forum for Staten Island residents who are interested in Geology and science in general. The Society meets on a monthly basis. Distinguished Guest speakers typically present a Geology oriented presentation at the monthly meetings. The Society also holds several trips throughout the year to locations that would interest Geologists (e.g., the Franklin Mine in NJ and the American Museum of Natural History).

The society meetings are interactive. We provide a forum where everyone can participate in a presentation, lecture, Show and Tell or simply to expound their thoughts. Our member's range from school children to distinguished seniors who are experts in their fields of study and noted residents of Staten Island.

Members receive a monthly mailing of the GEOEXAMINER. The GEOEXAMINER serves as the Societies' proceedings, newsletter and calendar.

Several Dinners are held throughout the year to celebrate the Holidays and the Society in general. Coffee and cakes are served at each meeting.
