The Staten Island Geological Society, Inc. (SIGS) was organized in 1972 to offer programs to the community on the study of geology and its related earth sciences. The aim of the Club is to encourage the collection and preservation of minerals and geological specimens and the aesthetic appreciation of these specimens. The Club is a nonprofit organization whos aim to the plan activities for the pleasure and enjoyment of its members. It is our hope that our members take an active participation in the programs of the Club. A club is evaluated by the successes of its programs, and members working together determine a successful club. If you would like to be a member of an active club, apply now for membership. We know you will enjoy being a member of the Staten Island Geological Society.
If you are interested in sharing these or related programs, we invite you to join our Club. Our yearly activities include ten scheduled meetings on the second Friday of each month, September to June, with interesting lecture/slide programs, field trips, study workshops, visits to museums and other places of special interest, and a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Our Club has added another activity to our program, that of our lapidary workshop. Started in October 1993, our lapidary workshop is available, for qualified members, on every Wednesday evening of the months, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, with the exception of July and August. Equipment will be available for a limited number of members to work on making cabochons or tumbling rocks. Membership is open to the general public. The only eligibility requirement is a sincere interest in minerals and Earth Sciences. The society also offers the opportunity for good fellowship with others who share similar interests.

Annual dues are:

Young Adults (19-21 yrs) - $5

Youngsters (18 or younger) - Free

Dues are payable in September for the calendar year. If you would like to become a member, please call Dorothy Fleming at 718-967-2203.
